I’m a painter working en plein air and from my studio in rural Wiltshire, UK. My current series of work, Sleep, explores the interplay between sleeping, dreaming, nightmares, sex and desire.

I also have a strong interest in how we think about the relationship between language and images, and in 2020 completed a series of 48 small paintings on T.S. Eliot’s Four Quartets poems. Readings of the poems, set against the backdrop of my paintings, can be heard and seen here. A book about the project will be published in 2021.

My work is regularly exhibited in galleries and open exhibitions across the UK, and is included in private collections in the US, Australia, France, and Britain, including the private collection at Kensington Palace.

I’m also an illustrator, focusing primarily on natural history, and am Director of 100 Moths, an art and conservation project which aims to raise awareness of the importance of moths in the UK.

Finally, I’m a published writer with an academic background in literature and the history of thought and ideas. My journalism, academic articles and book chapters have been published in the UK and abroad. You can read my blog about art, literature, and culture over at The Carington Press
